Handbook Part 7

Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four | Part Five | Part Six | Part Seven | Part Eight

  • EDIT EMAILS - ADMIN
  • PAID VERSION - Skip if not applicable.
    The first file is admin.cgi. In some places we need to change/edit it. Because it's the email that you send to your customers. One of the main things you need to change are some lines in two CGI scripts, namely:

    • admin.cgi (paid and unencrypted version)
    • cart.cgi (paid and unencrypted version)

    admin.cgi - In this file you should search for: $customer_service, you will find the following:

    $body=qq|Dear $field[5] $field[6],

    This message is to confirm that your order number $field[0] from
    $site_name was shipped on $field[2].

    Shipping Method: $field[32] $tracking

    You may review your current order status at:
    $order_url?set=$field[7]

    Feel free to contact us with any questions at: $customer_service

    Yours Sincerely,

    $site_name
    $url

    $site_owner
    $customer_service
    $site_telephone |;

    This is the email that is sent to your customer when you click (in your administration area) on: Change and send Email.

    Note! As you can see, the code is corresponding with the cartconfig.pl file, example: $url, $site_owner, $customer_service and more.

    NEVER DELETE THE END TAG! |; AND NEVER DELETE, FOR EXAMPLE $field[0].

    Write your own text in admin.cgi. But do NOT delete field numbers with brackets! If you don't want your telephone number in the email, just delete $site_telephone. In cartconfig.pl you will find $customer_service, this is your customer service email address.

    $tracking is only used when shipped with a tracking number, no need to delete it. You are free to delete the part below in cartconfig.pl, be sure you delete $site_telephone in the above email too.

    ## Telephone number customer care. Example: $site_telephone="Your telephone number";
    $site_telephone="+31 (0) 10 413 90 11";

  • EDIT EMAILS - CART
  • PAID VERSION - Skip if not applicable.
    The second file is cart.cgi. In some places we need to change/edit it. It's the email that is sent by the system to your customers. One of the main things you need to change are some lines in two CGI scripts, namely:

    • admin.cgi (paid and unencrypted version)
    • cart.cgi (paid and unencrypted version)

    cart.cgi - In this file you should search for: $payment_text, you will find the following:

    Check or Money Order, Bank Wire Transfer, all email text and more, just scroll a little down until you find:

    $body="Dear $FORM{'billing_firstname'} $FORM{'billing_lastname'},

    Thank you for ordering from $site_name.
    We appreciate your interest shown in our products.

    Your order number is: $order_number
    $payment_text

    Feel free to contact us with any questions at $customer_service.

    Yours sincerely,

    $site_name $url

    $customer_service
    $site_telephone

    You can change the standard text at any time as in the admin.cgi explanation.

  • EDIT REVIEW - OPTIONAL
  • PAID VERSION - Skip if not applicable.
    The third file is review.cgi. It is not necessary to edit this file. However, if you want to add css you can easily do it. This file is important to your customers because they can follow their order status online.

  • MORE INFORMATION URL
  • PAID VERSION - Skip if not applicable.
    This section is about to change the popup (if you wish), on the product page. The "More Information URL" which you can change in the admin.cgi script. You can find the more information URL field, if you are adding a product or edit a product.

    admin.cgi. I have decided to make a popup here, that has a standard size of: Height 650 and width 500 pixels. And the text on the product page "Click here for more information.", but you can change this. The popup will automatically show at the top left corner of the screen.

    You can change the popup size, for example: height 750 and width 650 pixels. If you do not want a popup but prefer a full URL, it is also possible. This is then (like the popup), opened in a new (normal size) large window, with an address bar in the browser.

    Want to change the More Information URL?

    Below is an example how you can change it and edit this in admin.cgi. First you see the current code, then the full URL (with address bar in the browser) that does not use a JavaScript popup.

    Search in admin.cgi for: javascript:void

    Current code: <br><br><a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="window.open('$field[9]', '$_[0]', ' height=650,width=500
    ,status=yes,toolbar=no,menubar=no,location=no, scrollbars=yes, left=30,top=30')"><b>Click here for more information.</b></a>|;}

    Modify to FULL URL: <br><br><a href="$field[9]" target="new specs"><b>Click here for more information.</b></a>|;}

    On the admin.cgi page you will see | Products | >> "Add a new product to your store.", adding a product just below the large field (Long Description), about your product description you will see More Information URL.

    Suppose you sell computer products online, then it might be logical - if the product is a Apple MacBook Pro -, to hyperlink this product to the relevant Apple (full URL website) page, such as:

    http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/features.html
